Food & Wine's Editorial Guidelines Published on July 6, 2024 Photo: Food & Wine/Amanda McDonald Just a few months ago I moved from an apartment with a tiny, crowded kitchen to a place with much more space and lots of room to cook. My new kitchen is an upgrade in almost every aspect — except for the lighting. I’ve tried adding under-the-counter LED lights in previous kitchens but always found it too harsh, so I had almost resigned myself to living with poor lighting. That is until I saw one video amongst a few viral TikToks detailing the reasons to get a rechargeable cordless lamp for your kitchen counter. The One Fire Vintage Flower Kitchen Lamp was in my Amazon cart almost immediately, especially since it was discounted by 32% — as it is right now. After over three months of use, I can confidently say it was the best $25 I spent during my move. Vintage Flower Kitchen Lamp Amazon Orig. $37 $25 at Amazon At just under 12 inches tall, the One Fire Vintage Flower Kitchen Lamp fits under any standard cabinet. It has three light settings: a warm yellow, a natural, and a crisp white light. All it takes is a light touch to turn it on, select the preferred light setting, or turn it off. All three lighting options are also dimmable by dragging a finger along the top of the touch sensor. The product description says the shade is made of “crystal,” but my best guess is that it is probably acrylic plastic. Light easily shines through in all directions — not just downward like lamps with an opaque shade. It's easy to wipe off any dust or splashes of foods or liquids that may accumulate while I am chopping or mixing. All I do is use a damp paper towel and it comes off clean. Food & Wine/Amanda McDonald I have not one, but two low-light corners in my new kitchen, so a little over 12 weeks ago I positioned the lamp near the darkest and plugged it in to let it charge overnight. Since then, I turn it on when I am cooking to brighten the space and then turn it off when I leave the kitchen; I have not had to charge it more than a handful of times. When left on and unplugged, the battery lasts for around three hours. Food & Wine/Amanda McDonald I prefer the warm or white setting depending on the time of day, and love to move it around with me throughout the kitchen if I am chopping on the other side of the counter or stirring a pot on the stove. This lamp can be moved anywhere in the house, and while I haven’t used it besides in the kitchen, I can see how it would be great in the bathroom, laundry room, hallway, office, bedroom, or another area where you need a bit more cozy light, especially for $25.
